Man and woman die after car leaves road and hits tree in Central West

CENTRAL WEST, NSW, Australia - Two people, a man, and a woman, have been killed in a single-vehicle car crash on Saturday in the New South Wales Central West.

The double-fatality crash occurred just before 5:00am on Saturday morning.

"Emergency services were called to the Mitchell Highway at Maryvale about 40km east of Dubbo after a truck driver drove upon a car that had crashed into a tree," Orana Police District said in a statement issued on Saturday night.

The two people killed, a man aged 27, and a woman aged 57, were the only two occupants of the car.

They died at the scene and are yet to be formally identified.

"Detectives from Orana Police District have commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash," the police statement added.

"A brief will be prepared for the information of the Coroner."
