Two bodies found after house fire in Sydney's northwest

SYDNEY, April 27 (Xinhua) -- Two bodies were found following a house fire in Sydney's northwest, local police said on Monday.

Emergency services were called to Lieutenant Bowen Road, Bowen Mountain, some 70 km northwest of Sydney's CBD, at about 2:10 a.m. Monday local time, after reports of a fire, New South Wales Police said in a statement.

A man and four children were able to escape the house, but two residents were unaccounted for, the police said.

Two bodies -- believed to be those of the unaccounted-for residents -- were found when the home was searched, they added.

The escaped were taken to a local hospital for treatment for smoke inhalation and minor burns, according to the statement.

The Australian Broadcasting Corporation reported earlier that two children were unaccounted for following the house fire in the foothills of the Blue Mountains.
